Men, Fluevog’s Idol Jaggers Are Just What You Want For FW10
For a pair of boots that started with Jack White, the Idols are still going the distance. These are the Idol Jagger ankle boots, which are officially the must have men’s boot of the FW10 season.
The straps and studs make for a sleek look, and the Cuban heel provides an androgynous twist to a classic boot shape. The Idol Jaggers are just what the man bored with conventions needs for the coming chill.
The Jaggers are $449 per pair, though anyone who has owned a pair of Fluevogs knows they last decades when taken care of. Available in sizes 7 through 12.
ASOS Brogue Boots Are Perfect For The Pre-Fall Man
There’s nothing tricky about putting together an outfit with a brogue boot – you take the outfit you were ready to wear a sneaker or regular brogue with, and you’re ready steady.
The points that make these boots are its use of colored leathers. They aren’t obnoxiously colored, yet the colors speak for the design of each boot, especially due to their 2010-perfect in between pastel hues.
Trickers (exclusive to ASOS) would be responsible for the brogue Chelsea with the purple elastic insert ($497), while ASOS’ house brand is responsible for the coral red tumbled leather boots ($304).
These boots are versatile in the way that they can not only be worn during hot, color friendly months but during the winter chill. One way this is done by styling a largely neutral layered look which features only the brights on the brogues; you not only feature attention to your investment colors, but they have you shining.
The question is this: are you bold enough for the brogue boot?
What Do You Get When You Cross A Boat Shoe With A High Top Sneaker?
A chukka boot!
They’re the ideal summer footwear hybrid for those looking for something more than what either separate designs can’t provide alone. These particular chukkas are for the ladies, which feature a black sequin toe cap.
The men have a particular design advantage – Sperry Top Sider has collaborated with Band of Outsiders to create six distinct chukka boots, and some are even on sale at the moment.
Chukkas are excellent for running to and from pre-fall patios, and much better than a pair of ratty tatty Converse.
Osborn Design Printed Oxfords Are Back @ Alter Brooklyn
Printed lace ups are one of the best flats one could hope for during colorful summers, and Alter Brooklyn has a crop of fancy new flats from Osborn Designs. The shoes you see below are all $90, while one pair (the blue and green African – I’m not sure which one that is; there’s many on the Alter site) are $99.
It’s a pretty damn good deal, especially since these are incredibly limited run in both print and sizes. If you’re into any of these kicks, call Alter and see if they have your print/size combo before they’re gone!

Studded Sneakers For Supreme Summer Style & Comfort
Studded and spiked footwear have been whirlwinding in popularity, especially since Louboutin Freddy brogues and Rollerball loafers appeared. Studded sneakers are the next wave of the look, which are just as exo-cool and ultra hip for day to night wear.
Like all footwear, prices and detailing vary. The most elite pairs include the white Louboutin Louis sneakers, a clear sibling of the Rollerball and Freddy. Similarly (and ironically more expensive), LA Shopper’s pyramid stud sneaks mirror the much familiar Converse style.
For a similar look to the LA, Wifky’s sneakers in black or red are an option; they are much less, though are doubtlessly constructed with less care. What Goes Around Comes Around offers a similar stud clustering style, only the sneaker is an actual Converse shoe.
For the spike lovers, Gienchi’s all over design, Dsquared’s vertical spike design and [of course] Sam Edelman’s leather Alexanders. Semi-Couture’s studded canvas sneaks really don’t fit anywhere else due to their odd stud shape, but they’re definitely worth a mention on the list.
While I can’t vouch personally for the rest of the pack, I’ve got the Sam Edelman Alexanders, and they have padding for an incredibly comfortable walking feel.

Raf Simons x Doc Martens On Sale @ Gravity Pope
Raf Simons and Doc Martens collaborated a while ago, and it just so happens that Gravity Pope has some dwindling stock on sale.
GP has a few choice pieces still left, including the cut out gladiator sandals ($200 CA), mid calf silver metallic boots ($300 ) and the super slick white patent low cut classics ($160). If you’ve been waiting or any of these pieces, now is the time – all of them are relevant and still on trend for this summer.

Doc Marten Creates The Manton, A Prime Desert Boot
Doc Marten has created the perfect boot to storm the concrete with – their Manton desert boot. These babies are a very streamlined boot style, a departure from their traditional chunky sole.
These boots run for $120 US.

Locked On SILENT Leather Sneakers
Distressed leather sneakers are quite the tricky thing; you don’t want them looking too shabby or risk looking slobbish, though too new and you’re running into boot or jazz shoe territory.
SILENT sneakers are just the ticket to casual chic leather footwear – they are worked in just enough to have the look you’re wanting.
If you’re into the range, they are available at Oki-Ni ranging from $350 – 380 US.
10 Shoes For The Dapper Summer Man
Summer is the time when many shoe wearers (including the ladies) forget how important it is to wear proper footwear. The sad truth is many forgo splendid design for trashy flip flops or style devoid sneakers, but not this summer. Men, these are 10 summer ready shoes that you are not only going to want to wear, but you’ll get collecting compliments whenever you do.
The boat shoe is one of the most hyped designs this summer, and while Sperry has a bountiful load of designs (including the collab Band of Outsiders seersucker pair) if you’re wanting to explore from the roots. Narrative has an excellent multi color pair, as does Punto Pigro.
Casual oxfords are also prime choices. Ensure the sole isn’t too thick, and the design is streamlined; much like the Fluevog Radio CBC, Jeffrey Campbell Crayton and the ASOS house suede design.
Then we have the finishers! Gravity Pope’s Desert is a heavier design that hybridizes a jazz design with a traditional boot; it’s best for an evening look. H by Hudson’s perforated woven leather shoes are ideal for heated summer days, especially since you get the design allows the shoes to breathe. Camper has a great vintage looking sneaker as well, and Diesel’s high top hits the summer denim and grey 2010 trends.
There you have it! There are officially no more excuses for bad shoes this summer, boys.

Hunter’s Carnaby Range Picks Up Where Choo Left Off
Jimmy Choo x Hunter’s croc print wellies were so popular upon their release that they were not only released in color versions, but a new range was designed within the same animal skin theme.
The new range is called the Carnaby, and the first two out of production are the boa and ostrich skin – both which are skins usually only allotted to the luxury shopping bracket. It’s clever, really; plastic boots imitating luxury skins that many would otherwise not be able to afford.
If you decide you must have a pair of the Carnabies, they average at $220 per pair.

Start Kicking Ass With Doc Martens’ Metallic Cap Boots
Docs have gone through so many metamorphoses in recent years that we almost forget their roots as a work boot.
Toss aside the floral print or croc embossing, and you’ve got a basic, stomping good boot ready for whatever you’re going to put in front of it. While these Alloy boots may not be for the blue collar life, they channel the spirit of the original Doc Marten boots for the wearer that can appreciate its history.
The boot features a waxed leather body, faux metallic leather toe cover with the traditional Doc sole, and like all DM boots they’re reasonably priced at $130 per pair.
Boat Shoes Usurp The Sneaker’s Casual Kingdom
As predicted in November of’09, the boat shoe is officially taking the place of the haute casual footwear style of summer 2010.
Boat shoes are a perfectly preppy hybrid of a loafer and sneaker, and because they are a combination that relies more on design than your average street sneaker you have the leeway to wear them during a multitude of occasions.
Now it comes to picking your favorite style – I located three designs that follow the basic boat design, yet are different enough to have you thinking you just may want all three.
We’ll start with the Steve Madden YACHTT ($60); not only do these come in a delightful spring green, but five other Ralph Laren-inspired shades as well. The light gold Sperry Top Sider ($85).
The undeniable favorite of the group is the high top Kurt Geiger Manitou ($230; also in brown/mint); which are just like your favorite sneakers, only more dapper and refined.
Doc Marten FW10 Preview Photos
As the Docs celebrate 50 years of life and culture, we look forward to their FW10 collection and oh, it’s good. Imagine a pair of crushed red velvet classic 8 holes, floral Darcies, and some contrast piping boots that evoke more than a bit of Comme Des Garçons.
It’s a safe bet so say FW10 is going to be an excellent season for the stompers.

Happy 50th, Doc Martens!
Dr Marten boots seem to have completed their first 50 years of life hopping on one leg. This is a brand that is synonymous with rogues, blue collars, and everyone in between; and now in 2010 truly being considered a brand for the style conscious.
Whether haven’t laced up a pair since the 90s or are a proud Doc collector, one can’t deny the impact on the world and especially England’s street style scene. For the first time within recent years, Docs are being treated for being more than a punk staple and a true fashion addition – they haven’t collaborated with Jean Paul Gaultier, Raf Simons, Stussy Deluxe, Yohji Yamamoto, and Submersive.
From the basic black 8 hole to new floral prints and colorful foil designs, it’s clear that Docs have come a long way from their rough and tumble days, and have still a long way to go before they hit their stride.

It’s An All Out Vege-Friendly Canvas Boot Attack!
As predicted, canvas boots are exploding onto the summer style scene for 2010. Staying far from winter darks, boots are appearing in army fatigues, whites and dominating gray shades. These are ideal for not only the trend observer but the animal friendly buyer; these boots may work for vegan wearers as well, though this would require further investigation into the contents of the sole.
I purchased the grey OTBT boots (seen below, $90) at Alter while visiting Brooklyn a few weeks ago, and have hardly taken them off since. Canvas boots are organic, and therefore give you a more gentle feel without having to sacrifice a rugged boot cut. Other boots to consider include Topshop’s MILLIE boots ($70), Marais USA’s white army boots ($65) and the past featured Palladium stonewashed boots ($70).

Let’s Play A Game: Fluevog VS Fluevog
Fluevog is a Vancouver footwear staple, and the ‘Vog love has been spreading throughout the globe for over 40 years. When examining the latest footwear churned out by the design team, it is clear the brand is at a crossroads. It appears that the brand is going through a half renaissance; incredible new pieces are being created by the label, yet they continue to drag one leg in their old style, ’90s clod footwear.
While it seems that in some ways Fluevog as a label is ready to enter the new decade with beautiful, streamlined footwear that does Canadian design proud. On the other, we see them caught in the trap of familiarity; large, clunky and often garish pieces (Minis, I’m looking at you) are ensuring the brand makes as many strides backward as they do forward.
It seems as though there is a battle of creative wits waging within the bowels of Fluevog, and things glibly comes down to modernists versus traditionalists.
Let’s pretend we’re modern shoe gladiators and pitch Fluevog vs Fluevog, and see where the label’s strength actually lies…

The Dr. Is In, And He Calls For Neutral Boots
There is no reason to case aside boots during the balmier months, and in the case of Doc Martens you can be both ready for all weather and trend observing.
As you’ve been hearing till your ears go blue, neutrals are the key to jumping on trending in the boot world. Docs are affordable, wear extremely well and come in loads of different designs and heights – you can’t go wrong with a boot that looks better with wear!
If blue marks you well, check out the 8 eye Serena boot ($120), or the utterly eccentric Canada Goose illustrated Softy T ($140). For a lighter shade, check out the taupe 8 eye ($120), tall[er] creme patent Lamper ($130) or the traditional white 8 eye ($115).

New TOMS For A New Summer
As the warmer seasons creep up on us yet again, we get thinking of new flats for our runs to and from the beach. Toms are perfect for kicking off and slipping on again, and they’ve released a load of new fabric types just in time for SS10.
demiCouture picks include the rainbow gingham Botas ($79), Aira Cordones ($79), Novia Classics ($54), Tyler Ramsey hand painted loafers ($68) and the spray painted-alike Gabe Lacktman Cross-Hairs ($68).
Remember, for every pair bought, TOMS will donate a pair to a child in need via their One for One initiative. New shoes, and socially conscious donations made on your behalf in one go – it’s a win.
Palladium Canvas Sneaker Boots Are Ideal Transitional Footwear
Canvas boots are experiencing an upsurge of popularity, and these Palladium BAGGY kicks are just the ticket for the fellows or andro loving ladies.
These foldover boots are sublimely priced at $75 US, and are following one of the heaviest footwear trend for SS10 – canvas construction.
The BAGGY boots do come in black and a jungle brown leathers, though the canvas pairs are not only $45 less, but they work for vegans and are far more on trend.
