Chanel Temporary Tatts Are Coming In SS10
Now this is an excellent way for Unkie Karl to get his gloved digits into the pockets of those Chanel would otherwise leave out!
It’s official – Chanel’s much loved temporary tattoos will be available for purchase on Chanel.com during the SS10 season. For $75 you will receive five sheets of tatts, which equals to about 55 designs in total.
For historically commitment-phoebes such as myself, this is an excellent way to get a little temporary ink and an unexpected accessory for the coming season.
According to Wikipedia, temp tatts can last up to three weeks – I wonder what the average life of the Chanel rub ons will be.

Supersize Your Cosmetics With Sephora, Save Cash
It worked for Costco, and Sephora wants this supersizing mentality to work for them, too.
Now we can get jumbo sized versions of the products we use, including Clinique moisturizers, Smashbox primer, Living Proof de frizzer, Ralph Lauren Polo cologne and a whole slew more.
If these are products that you would be using on a daily (or multi daily) basis, this would be a deal to take into account. Don’t get all rosy over these mega sizes if you don’t intend to get hyper usage on these products – beauty products do expire, and what may seem like a super deal will turn into a waste in your local landfill.

Test Kiehl’s Skin Repairing Açai Serum @ Holt Renfrew
If you’re near a Holt Renfrew in the quite near future, check out their skincare boutique and request a sample of Kiehl’s Açai Damage Repairing Moisturizer.
If you don’t make it into HR in time to grab a sample, check out Kiehl’s official site. They are supplying three complimentary samples with any purchase off their website – this means you could purchase the most affordable açai product (the cleanser) for $24.50, and you’ll get to try three other products as well.
Kiehl’s claims the berry extract within these products stimulates skin renewal, reduces damage due to oxidation, sun exposure and other external stressors.
All açai products are 100% natural origin, so those with sensitive epidermis can check this product out without fear.
M.A.C.’s Halloween 2009 Artist Face Charts
If you’re looking for last minute makeup looks for Halloween, check out M.A.C.’s Halloween lookbook. They have professionally designed faces to disguise your normal self and get into super terror mode for the last day of October.
They have 20 new designs this year that were the most popular by their M.A.C. artist peers, so these will be intense to be sure. Check out all the design details, but don’t if you’re at the office as this link takes you to Facebook.
My favorites are below; the Mexican skeleton face, cartoon face and the frozen demon chick.

DSQUARED² For M.A.C. Hits The Shelves
It’s finally available – the Dsquared collection for M.A.C.
There are some excellent bits available here – check out the lip erase ($19), clear gloss ($22), violet and blue greasepaint sticks ($21 each) and the sculpt/shape powder ($25).
Remember, all these items were used on their FW09 runway!

Talentless Farce Avril Lavigne Creates Perfume, Smells Like Divorce

Do you want to smell like this idiot who can’t even discern which genre her music fits within?
Didn’t think so.
Regardless of whether we want to have Avril’s stank bottled, it’s going to be forced upon retailers. Her fragrance will be dubbed ‘black star’, but I’m pretty sure they would have been more true to form by calling it ‘brown eye’.
Great job, pop princess. Great job.
Temptu Personal Airbrushing Kit Hits Sephora
Temptu’s at home airbrushing kit has officially hit Sephora, and it is indeed $225 as originally promised.
The coverage can be adjusted to sheer, medium and full depending on skin types and replacement cartridges of foundation sell for $35 (a single cartridge of highlighter) to $55 (two cartridges of foundation).
Each pod apparently contains up to two months’ of makeup, so replacement pieces for this beautification machine wouldn’t really cost more than your average foundation upkeep. There are 12 pigment ranges for all skin variations, so there’s a shade for everyone.
Will you be buying the Temptu?
Reviewing Essie’s Matte About You Nail Lacquer Topcoat
When I first heard about matte nail polish as a trend for the fall, I was intrigued. There have been many variations of nail polish over the years (glitter, confetti, diamond dust), though matte versions are largely unexplored lacquer territory. As all major polish brands have released at least one collection of matte shades for FW09, it’s hard to pick which polishes to invest in – this is where matte topcoats swoop in and save the day.
Instead of buying multiple shades of matte nail polish at $10 a pop, buy one bottle of matte topcoat instead! This provides endless possibilities for changing any of your current nail polish colors into a gorgeous and on trend matte shade while keeping you on trend and within your budget.
My matte topcoat of choice is Essie’s Matte About You. It provides smooth coverage with a beautiful, even matte finish. The formula glides on easily and dries quickly, leaving little room for smudges and nicks that constantly spoil a manicure.
Matte topcoat is that it leaves you endless options for creative nail decoration. My personal favorite is a black matte nail with a shiny black tip; it’s a FW09 update twist on the traditional manicure.
Essie Matte About You is one of a few matte topcoats released this season, along with OPI and China Glaze versions. Matte about you retails for $12 a bottle and can be found in Vancouver at Shifeon on Robson or at Beauty Mark in Yaletown.

Testing Out M.A.C.’s Volcanic Ash Exfoliator
I had heard about positive effects of volcanic ash for the skin and body, but I didn’t know what to expect when it came to actual application.
The scent of the volcanic ash exfoliator was a pleasant surprise – it was a wee bit of lavender, but nothing too intense. My skin type is very temperamental and needs all the help it can get, so it was important that the exfoliate was gentle enough to not cause further irritation. The ash had an instant mattifying effect on the skin and absorbed surface oils effectively, which was the prime reason for wanting to test this product.
After initial application, I was a shade terrified to see exactly how much I need a pore minimizing product as the black mixture sunk into the skin. After the general shock wore off, I found the volcanic ash and Vanuatu sugar crystals were easily scrubbed over skin and the crystals dissolved easily into the black ash mixture.
I would have preferred that there was more ash to scrape away dead topical skin cells, though it was still effective and priced $8.50 less than current exfoliate, M.A.C.’s microfine refinisher.
All in all, I’m sold on this particular product.

5 Prescriptive Products Free With $32.50 Purchase
With Prescriptives disappearing in January 2010, it’s no wonder that we’ve already begun to see product liquidation.
Currently this is occurring in the form of 5 free gifts with a $32.50 purchase of skincare or foundation; offer is valid till September 25th, 2009 (only two days remain!). I can personally vouch for the Colorscope lip gloss – I have it, and it’s utterly wonderful.
I recommend looking into their anti aging products, even if you think you’re too young and taut to need them just yet. After all, it’s said that an an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I would look into acquiring the Super Line Prevention Xtreme ($48-76), the All You Need+ For Eyes cream ($30) and Triple Action Therapy lip care ($15).

Prescriptives Is No More
They’ve been around for 30 years, but that means nothing in a volatile market. Estée Lauder’s Prescriptives venture is officially off the shelves of beauty retailers come January 2010.
I have Prescriptives’ lip gloss in nude, and it’s the best product I’ve used – stock up while you can!

M.A.C. Black Is In The House
Delicious black kohl rimmed eyes will be seen in abundance this FW09 season, thanks to M.A.C.’s style black collection.
Favorites include the ‘young punk’ eyeshadow ($24), greasepaint stick ($21), midnight media mattine lipstick ($18) and the noctornelle nail lacquer ($15).
For skin care, the volcanic ash thermal mask and exfoliator (both $24) sound like excellent skin treatment procedures.
Apparently, volcanic ash has numerous therapeutic properties; it aids in anti oxidant reactions in the body, disinfects blood, protects cell protoplasm (renewal) and stimulates collagen creation to keep skin elasticity.
The sulfur in the ash also acts as an anti aging property as it refutes pollution and radiation damage.
Congrats To Maria, Winner Of The Harajuku Lovers Fragrance Set!
I’m a little late posting this, but congrats to Maria who has won the Harajuku Lovers fragrance gift pack!
Her ideal FW09 outfit included a Topshop Kate Moss leather skirt, Joe Fresh patent crop gloves, Bebe grommet booties, a French Connection Isola top and this French Connection boyfriend blazer.
Does that not sound divine?
If only I could have also provided the pieces to create this magical outfit…
Reviewing A Handful Of Joe Fresh Beauty Products
I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised with the results after being tasked with reviewing the newly released Joe Fresh beauty line! I probably should have spaced out my testing over more than two days, but hey, it’s not every day I can wear a ridiculous amount of camera worthy cosmetics [off camera] and get away with it.
The first item I tried was the cream foundation (pictured, left). I used to buy the M.A.C. version of this when I thought that $30 pots of foundation were the thing to buy (that was before the world’s financial smackdown). Joe Fresh’s cream foundation is a highly reasonable $8 (yes, eight Canadian dollars) and comes with a smartly tinted sponge applicator.
I would suggest using this pot foundation with one of their brushes (they range from $8-14), likely a smaller one for travel touch ups and larger for home use. Using a brush to apply foundation is awesome for a number of reasons; it prevents hand coloration, reduces amount of product usage, provides even coverage and won’t transfer oils and dirt [which may cause imperfections] from your hands to your face.
The liquid foundation’s lightest tint was a bit dark for my colorless vampire skin, but it covered and blended well and dried to a light powdery finish. The liquid foundation (pictured, middle) runs at $6 for an average size squeeze tube.
The cheek tint is in an easy to use tube applicator, which comes out in the same twist manner as a deodorant. It’s an easy product to apply, and blends well with foundations over cheeks. The tint comes in a range of rose shades from light to dark; all are priced at $4 each.

Next on the docket was the lipstick. I really love the clear design of their cosmetic cases; especially the one for the lipwear. The lipstick itself was creamy and didn’t dry oddly (you know they type; it’s kind of like slight crackling plaster!). There is a moisturizing agent in the mix that keeps you away from the chap, and all for $6.
I made sure to test the clear mascara since I this is an important beauty tool that has potential to be overlooked. Clear mascara is great for a number of reasons; you can freeze eyebrows in place, it can thicken and extend lashes before a second coat of colored mascara and offer a subtle glean to eyelashes if you’re going to a conservative event. Black, brown and clear mascaras are all $6.
Lastly (!) we have the eyeshadow trio. I have the smoke trio (light pink, gray and black) myself, and found that this shadow functioned just as I would expect from a pricier mid level brand (not M.A.C. or Sephora). There are 7 different trio color combination pots available, all for $6 a piece.
I would love to see an organic line of Joe Fresh cosmetics. I know Superstore has a history of supporting local farm talent, so this would be an excellent way to get our economy stimulated in another way, be eco-responsible and promote the usage of healthy non chemically derived body products.
I think smart women [and metrosexual men] will be loving the accessibility and affordability of this brand – it’s not like you can’t afford to give it a test go!

Review Of SidLab Hair Couture Shampoo, Conditioner, Smoother
I recently had the chance to use SidLab hair couture products; the haute one shampoo, haute two conditioner and haute three smoother.
The products come in convenient, mess free and easy to use pump dispensers. The products use natural alternatives such as a coconut derivative instead of a widely used synthetic alternative. The products have a pleasant, yet not overbearing scent and gave my colored and regularly abused hair a lovely silk feel and light texture.
The smoothing product was light weight, and provided anchorage for the flyaways that always occur when the weather makes its transition from dry to damp. SidLab products are also all sulfate and paraben free; paraben is a common additive to hair products that has been linked to breast cancer.
SidLab is not only good for your health, but their products are truly hair couture; they are the official hair care line for L.A. Fashion Week and Portland Fashion Week.

Davines Wizards Makes The Best Hair Spray I’ve Ever Used
This is not only an excellent hold, but it smells like vanilla cupcake mix!
Davines is pretty much the crème de la crème of the hair spray (or fixative spray they like to call it). Not only that, but on the bottle it clearly states the product is ‘for wizards’… I can’t help but love it.
This is the spray that Zinc Salon uses for their live hair shows, so you know this product is of top notch quality. If you’re looking to experience this magic, prepare to pay for what you get – one bottle goes for about $34.
It’s worth it, though – the hold is excellent and the scent lasts for hours.
A multitude of Davines products are available at Zinc Salon on West 16th in Vancouver [Googlemap]
