You can buy the album, a Mugler dress The Gaga wore on the runway and various other Gaga-riffic themed items. Regardless if you’re into Gaga or not, these are very punk inspired, accessory laden style, beautifully juxtoposed with clean lines and flawless tailoring.
Even though I don’t plan on blowing my wallet’s load on the sale, I definitely want to see what they have to offer and plan some DIYs of my own!
For a staple summer piece not within the realm of a standard solid, try an A-line striped skirt. These are full on the hips, and disguise large thighs and create a fun, feminine look that is very easy to style. Whether you go from a longer length or shorter, a stripe is a failsafe summer option and a solid purchase.
Wear any of these bottoms with tanks, cropped tees, longer tees partially tucked in, and if it’s cold out, toss on a loose knit sweater to keep a bit of warm on.
Wedges and heels seem to be going to new heights, and it seems they are being directed to the full wallet style blogger pack. Heights seem to be getting more and more rediculous, with pricing following suit – the116-79is a penny under $1,000 and its sibling 116-104 rings in at a hair under $700.
Perhaps the craziest thing about all of this is that the 116-79 is sold out in sizes 5, 6, and 7! I wonder if they’ll be able to move the 8, 9 and 10s since the tall folks likely won’t wish to reach heights that require an oxygen tank.
We’re seeing jackets cropped higher than ever.. perhaps jacket height are the new mini skirt height measure! This jacket by Graeme Armour has crept higher up the torso than the bike jackets of the 80s, and it does no favors for a figure (even if you’re pin thin as that model!)
The crop of the jacket makes even a long torso look boxy, whether it’s done up or not. It’s so unflattering, I can’t imagine even the most daring of the style bloggers [etc] pulling this off.
Rudsak is a delightful Canadian bag export; these are high quality, pebbled leather pieces of beautiful minimalistic design. These are excellent pieces as a representation of Canadian design, and can be acquired at quite a lovely discount through Privé’s current sale.
Fringe isn’t just for bad bike jackets and lampshades, and I’m about to prove it. Transferring our attention to hot weather styles since the weather [finally] appears to be cooperating, we get into the movement of fringe.
Tops don’t get much better than AllSaints’ Rata top; short, sleeve mane like fringe with a pair of denim shorts is just what you’ll want for summertime adventuring. If lower key is more your type, IRO’s Julia tank is front facing minimalistic, with the detailing placed on the sides and back with the twisted raceback strap style. Acid wash is nowhere close to going away, and with the new crop of looks are Topshop Unique’s side fringe shorts; they’ve got great side hanging fringe ponytails – definitely a look for a braver soul.
If accessories are more your thing, scope Hayden-Harnett’s Syrena bag, fresh out of their collaboration with Disney for the new Pirates movie. Free People also has a nicely affordable metal fringe necklace, if you’re really going for subtle trend following. AllSaints’ Pipaluk boots were a bit of a surprise for me [as I don't do moccasin styles], though these do not shout that style to me; the stitching on the top of the foot isn’t obnoxiously large, and top strapping is small enough not to take over the visual.

Well put together menswear thrives on high quality basics; bottom, outerwear, and a properly made boot or shoe. A high quality piece of footwear can morph a high street look to another level of cool, and Heutchy pieces are just the thing for such a transformation.
These Heutchy boots are perfect in many ways; minimalistic, sleek and can be worn with nearly anything in summer or winter. Favorites are the oxblood leather boot ($205 from $450), grey suede dress shoe ($184 from $400) and the grey suede short boot ($190 from $415).
Many are doing the animalia jewelry approach these days, but a favorite of mine has consistently been a collection from Modekungen, an obscure Swedish retailer with an excellent online shop.
This is the Halsband Animal necklace; available in brass or silver finish. The chain attached to both antlers, and is quite sizeable for a necklace, though not at all in Flava Flav territory. The Halsband runs in at just over €44 (about $63 US), and is officially my new favorite necklace to wear with my larry woolen alpaca and leather necklace [similar necklace shot in recent ss11 editorial]
If there is one boot to invest in for wear through summer, fall and winter, it’s Trippen’s Layers.
You may scoff at summer wear for a boot like this, but think about it – leggings, shorts, skirts, colored denim.. this boot will work with anything, and put you in another world entirely.
I love the Layers because its Japanese-style base is close to the ground; it’s low enough to wear during day to day wear, and isn’t a stretch for the boys. These kind of remind me of a Rei Kawakubo creation; there are so many possibilities if you’ve got this one in your arsenal.
Boat shoes have been a hyper popular style for over a year, but what styles do we go for this year?! There are always the typical patent or matte colored leather styles, but those are dated at this point. It’s all up to neutrals and multi colored pieces to pick up the slack this summer; these five pieces below are excellent choices that all happen to be quite affordable.
Leopard loafers have been at the top of my shoe boner list for a while now, and when Senso offered to kick me a pair of their Ezzie loafers, I was thrilled.
These are a pre-fall babies that aren’t yet available online, though I’m certain when they land in online stores, Solestruck will be the first folks to have them in stock.
The Ezzies are printed pony hair, much like their Laden bootie counterparts from FW10. They’ll also be available in full black and zebra animal print upon release.
How fun are they?! I want to get a zebra pair next!
This one is a bit of cheap self promotion since I shot it, but I’ve yet to meet a person or creature who does not love a larry! It was a surprisingly lovely break in torrential rainstorms that have been beating Vancouver in the last few days (Gastown streets flooded a few days ago), which made for a delightful creative.
There are always one (or in this case, a few) pairs of sunglasses you would sell your right arm to acquire. This summer belongs to MOO, an oddly named eyewear purveyor that has such delicatley accented pieces, prepare to go mad for them.
These are angelic eyewear designs, fit for the most refined or rough styles one could have. MOO pieces evoke memories of rococo styled pieces, with a mod touch – how could one possibly not love them!
Naturally, these are priced as a true luxury item – these pieces range from $483 for the half frames and thin framed Sangria to $508 for a white Aviator style, or $540 for the circular frames (naturally, my favorites)
While everyone professes to loathe Kanye to save their own concept of self credibility, I have suspicions that many of them secretly love Kanye. That being said, George Condo’s art makes for everything a scarf should be; bright, patterned and obtuse enough to not require wearing unfurled to appreciate as an accessory.
These are giant, delightful [albiet overpriced, though what do you expect] accessories, and quite limited in quantity. I’m particularly fond of three; the Face, Ballerina and Power pieces, which I’d wear loud and proud (everyone already makes fun of me for being a Kanye fan anyway)
Would you dish out $303 US for one of these pieces, and wear it proudly?
Message necklaces are cheesy, kinda tacky and can be such a brilliant addition to a look. You’ll have to ensure you have expertly styled your look so that it’s not relying on the message necklace to pull things off, but with the proper ensemble one can take it to ‘next level shit’ territory with one of these babies.
Cheap Monday’s ‘Cheap‘ necklace is just so gauche off on it’s own, though put on an outfit it carries itself entirely differently. I peeped this beauty at El Kartel [Vancouver, Googlemap], and instantly loved it. For something less street, Christian Dior’s gem piece could be used to ironically set your look in motion. Traditionalists with a sense of humor will enjoy the cheep and cheerfulArg! dog tag, since who couldn’t love something that cheeky.
Oh, this would be glorious The Bay arse kicking news if this where true. Not only would be get Nordstrom, but the true glory lies within the possible coming of Nordstrom Rack!
It’s like the Father and Son of the department store trinity. Can you imagine?!

Followers of demiCouture know that there are many reasons to love shopping at Privé; fantastics brands at super discounts being only one of many explored. The latest crop of product is Blank NYC denim; skinny, straight leg and wider leg jeans are priced at $45-63, which is a spanking deal.
Crucifixes have been at the forefront of hipster style hard ons for a while, and for great reason – they’re a stark shape, add a little controversy due to religious messaging and just generally look pretty awesome (thanks, Romans!)
If you’re in Australia or know any Aussies with great footwear taste, Senso is holding a sample sale in Surrey Hills right now. The days and time of the sale are below, and prices start at $40+ which means you could get a killer pair of kicks for nearly nothing!
Cash, major credit cards are accepted and you’ve only got till May 7th to swing by. If I were in that land, I’d be there in half a shake.
