I’m shocked and dismayed over the quality issue I’ve had with my Alexander Wang Diego bag. I ordered her from Shopbop on March 3rd 2011, and acquired by March 5. I was thrilled to have a Wang of my very own (finally!) and have subsequently treated the bag quite well; no dragging, kicking, tossing of the sort!
After owning my prize sack for about a month I noticed there was a bit of white at the base of the bag, to which I initially thought was paint or some stain on the leather, which was perplexing as I’d not been close to such a material that could have affected my bag. I zoomed my face in closer, and realized it was a piece of plastic sticking out of some ripped leather.
I couldn’t believe it. A $1,000 bag already had a defect after a month, during which it was treated quite well.
Upon examining the leather surrounding the tubing, it was incredibly thin; no wonder it ripped! Sure, I’ve been wearing this bag almost every day, but hell, that’s what a bag is supposed to be – worn. I am incredibly disappointed, and disheartened that one of my favorite contemporary designers’ pieces decided to fall apart so soon.
I’ll get it repaired (as it easily can be), but a bag of this cost and caliber should not be seeing the hands of a leather worker for many month.
Shame, Alexander Wang, shame!

04.12.11 @ 7:27 pm@Emma: does your duffle have the same piping style? If so, watch out!
04.12.11 @ 7:30 pma few of my friends have wang bags (specifically the rocco), and the same issue happened. one got hers from net-a-porter, and they wouldn’t replace it because it was over 6 months old. they’ve emailed aw customer service and received no response. they should be offering to replace the faulty bags and troubleshoot the issue so it doesn’t happen in the future. hopefully someone from a. wang will get in touch and offer to fix yours.
04.12.11 @ 8:46 pmBeyond a tote, if any bag I purchased, that caliber or not, began to disintegrate after one month, I’d be upset. Too soon, especially for leather.
04.13.11 @ 3:40 pmmaybe it has something to do the wangs being extremely heavy to begin with…the sheer weight could easily wear hard on trim. i’d def write a write a negative review. i wonder if you could still salvage the bag if you go over the plastic with a black jiffy marker
04.14.11 @ 11:52 pmOh no! You would think with a brand like that and the price you were paying you wouldn’t have to worry about it falling apart!
04.16.11 @ 6:01 pmI own a Brenda and Rocco by Alexander Wang and they have both fallen apart within the first year. same with their shoes. most of them were made in Asia, hence the lack of quality.
Thanks for posting this though, that’s definitely going to make me think twice before purchasing anything Wang until they improve the quality.
04.20.11 @ 12:09 pmI own this bag, and the exact same thing happened to me within the past few weeks- devastating! This bag is SO heavy that I only carry it in weekends, otherwise I get a massive knot in my back. With such minimal wear– this shbould not have happened. I would never recommend a Alexander Wang bag.
04.24.11 @ 4:14 pmThe SAME exact thing happened to me with my Diego, I got it replaced at Barneys within the one-month warranty because I thought it was only that specific bag, but my new one has started to have the same thing happen like 4 months later now! not sure what to do I’d like to complain to Wang
