Debenhams is a neglected retailer in my view; they sell select pieces that would fit right in amongst Selfridges or Topshop, but are never considered. These are my top three outerwear picks from Debenhams’ current selection; taking into account trends and price.
Leather has always been a focal point of aggressive dressing, and with the grunge/punk look resurfacing pieces have been easier to acquire. Enter Julien Macdonald’s Star line leather bike jacket (£171); it features a flattering full length torso, moto stitching on both long sleeves and a fun zebra lining – all excellent.
Studs, studs, studs! We can’t get away from them, and why would we want to? Red Herring has a delightful studded lapel blazer (£36) in the style of Balmain. The last is a pain, asymmetrical jacket by Butterfly by Matthew Williamson (£64). The stud details are in the form of epaulets, which are more subtle than a lapel style if you’re styling with a louder look.
All of these pieces are currently on sale.
