Dear World: Short Hair Does Not Designate Lesbians

Dear World: Short Hair Does Not Designate LesbiansPoor Aggy was recently the victim of what I’m thinking to be yet another world stereotype.  Let me reiterate: girls with short hair aren’t always lesbians.

As someone who has had quite short crops nearly all my life, I’ve had silly people assuming because you aren’t wearing a dress to offset your less feminine hair cut that you’re gay by default.

While I love my gays and embrace a highly androgynous look, the world should be aware enough to not assume anything in this society.

Let’s just all be friends, love all edgy styles and not presume to know someone by their length of hair, style of dress or shoes they like to wear.

I agree 100%! I just really don’t like the way hair feels on my neck and back. I’ve been growing it out because so many people like it but given my choice, I’d be in a funky bob for the rest of my life. AND I have a bf! Deal with it, world!

I’ve had short hair for ages and I never legitimately get mistaken for a lesbian. More importantly though, I would never be offended if I were.

If someone is stupid enough to make a judgment about who I screw based on my hair cut, I simply don’t value their opinion. Sadly, these sort of assessments are usually coming from a homophobic perspective. So as much as I dismiss them, the people making them are still toxic.

(Also, I worry that referring to her as “Poor Aggy” for being labeled a lesbian could be construed as offensive.)
