Life is a popularity contest, why do you think you have this blog? Popularity matters, looks matter and your blog actually matters. I may rag on you from time to time but you do actually keep up-to- date with some useful news items. Not a sore loser (it’s been too long) but maybe I am a bit judgmental because of her association with Vancouver View (another story for another time). Most of Karolina’s entries on FB were very good and showed a lot of talent. She did win fair and square over Shallom through FB vote. I guess the fans were quite conservative and the HR blog is conservative too so I guess it’s a perfect match. But who knows, maybe it will evolve into something more exciting? I’ll keep reading.

@sore losers? No, I am suggesting that Holt Renfrew is conservative, not racist. The fact they chose a human Barbie over a girl that isn’t the standard idea of mainstream style perfectly outlines this.

I can’t speak for anyone else, but I am not a sore loser since I opted not to enter this contest. The only thing close to a joke are your grammar skills.

Next time, try signing your full name and leave a URL so I can see who is insulting me. If you want to hide behind a mask of anonymity, take your pansy self somewhere else and stop reading this blog that you apparently hate so much.

@Who cares: Agreed about the visual politics. Karolina’s competition, Shallom Johnson, is a black girl with a mowhawk. She was unbelievably qualified for the role; too bad the competition was a glorified popularity contest.

I used to work at HR and it is all politics there. They now have a beautiful blonde thin approachable girl who the world can look up to or at least the daughters of those who spend mega bucks there. ie/ The Rogers Family. I have worked at many of the special nights where you spend a grand and get a $100 GC along with a cheap glass of wine and the big spenders go nuts. Canada is a conservative country. It’s all image for Holts.

NOTE: I am not white thin and blonde. I thought this is important to note.

In Karolina’s defense, I think the deal is that she is supposed to feature the stuff in the cheaper AKA ‘contemporary’ section so 3rd floor back where Marc, LAMB, Phillip Lim, Malandrino etc are. That leaves Lanvin out but still… uninspired. I was one of the semi-finalists for the HR Contemporary Correspondent Search and, I must say, I was disappointed when when they picked Karolina (Shallom was a choice I could stand behind). I’ve seen Karolina’s work in Vancouver View and it’s pretty laughable (as is the magazine). Karolina won the final round via Facebook vote so I guess she was chosen by Holt Renfrew clients. But in the end, it’s just a blog and it is our choice whether to read it or not.

I would also like to see some coverage of the menswear scene at Holt Renfrew too. Would it kill the correspondent to discuss some of the new brands or styles carried on the bottom floor of the store?
