The Best Of Bluefly’s Leather Gloves – All Under $81
Thursday October 29th 2009, 3:31 pm

It’s the time of the year when we want to beef up our wardrobes, and there is no easier and more affordable method to do this than by amping up your glove collection.  The four pairs below are the cream of the Bluefly crop; designer, embellished and discounted.

Zippers are just as on trend as studs happen to be this season; they’re grunge loving additions that add a visual line to the piece you’re wearing and a little bit of tough gruff.  If you’re into zip gloves, check out the Michael Kors version (far left, $53.10) or the more minimalistic Portolano style (far right, $67.50).

If metal is your game, Portolano has a beautiful pair of row studded gloves (second left, $67.50) that are ripe for the picking, and a more low key studded cuff pair ($67.50).

When you want to avoid the high trends, a fringe is an excellent route to go.  Fringe keeps your look off beat, yet offers more than the standard trend of the moment follow.  The pair shown below are by Michael Kors ($80.10) and will weather this winter beautifully.

Bluefly has an extra 10% off today, so if you’re going glove hunting now would be the time.

La Dolce Vita’s Cut Out Bootie Is Affordable Deliciousness

La Dolce Vita's Cut Out Bootie Is Affordable DeliciousnessThese boots by La Dolce Vita may be PU, but for $88 you can’t get a better bootie at the moment.

These boots have everything right for the moment, the cut out, buckles and low hidden platform.  The best part is La Dolice Vita has skipped past my biggest boot peeve this season – the open toe.

They’re available at Urban Outfitters, which has recently updated their shipping policies to post to Canada (hurrah!)

American Apparel Launches Halloween Contest iPhone App

Now this is the way for a company to use an app!

American Apparel has launched their iPhone Halloween contest app; basically you vote for submitted costumes or submit your own.  Winners receive a $100 gift certificate to AMAP for their creative efforts.

I wonder if AMAP will morph this downloaded app into something seasonal or more standard to the brand… it wouldn’t make sense to put this kind of cash into a program which has only a few days’ use.  Knowing American Apparel, they’ll have something up their glittery sleeves.

Jimmy Choo's PEP Range Experiencing SelloutsJimmy Choo’s PEP line has been released for a chunk of time now, and has completely sold out on it’s low priced items (the highest being €235/$372 CA).

The items that are gone include a rad cuff bangle, scarf, lanyard, mobile phone lanyard and leather studded cuff.

If you were hoping for one of these pieces, you can email Jimmy Choo and put yourself on the waiting list if reissues are made.

If you’re in baller territory, I would suggest grabbing up the tote pictured to the right (€595) and the canvas wallet (€395).

More Studded Ankle Boot Delights From Aldo

More Studded Ankle Boot Delights From AldoIf you’re looking for a subtle studded ankle boot, these may be just the design you’ve been searching for.

These are the Zinke boots ($180), and are thankfully sized from 5-11.  Remember, if you’re a size 10, you’ll want to be ordering one size up as Aldo sizing standards are not industry standard.

The ankle fold over cuff on the boot gives the look something additional that works well with the platform studding.  It’s a hard, yet not overly aggressive boot to wearing during this season; ideal for wearing with anything from leggings to a cocktail mini.

They are leather, so don’t feel so bad about dropping $200 on these babies if you are in need of a pair of ankle booties.

ASOS Takes On Moschino’s Signature Letter Belt

ASOS Takes On Moschino's Signature Letter BeltASOS is treading on hallowed ground – Moschino ground to be precise.

These gold letter pieces are a dear childhood memory of mine; I remember when I was quite young my aunt came to visit with a new purse and belt from this collection. To see such a kitschy imitation rubs salt in the wounds.

If ASOS was going to destroy this belt, they could have done so with at least a better catch phrase. I suppose they could have been banking on the youngins not knowing the history of the design, but come on – give the rest of us a little credit!

Kate Moss Holiday 2009 Collection Picks
Thursday October 29th 2009, 8:43 am

As promised, Kate Moss and Philip Green’s Topshop empire delivered on another collaboration range this morning.

The hits in the collection won bigger than in previous memory; shaped sequin mini ($250) and maxi dresses ($370) were amazing concerning evening wear potential, as well as the Victorian jacket ($210) which was simple enough to layer either former dresses and yet carry its own detailing without going overboard.

The on trend studded vest ($125) is a preference for those fans of the Mike & Chris Trevor studded vest, yet don’t wish to pay eight large for the privilege of a wear.  The lace ruche bodycon dress was also a favorite ($160) for its slight details and layer friendly design.

I was disappointed that the premiere evening coat ($380) of the collection was constructed with suede; with holiday times being very soggy with rains and snow, wearing suede is a death wish for the piece.  Topshop would have been clever to use leather instead as it wears better, longer and is a highly statement look.

The range held true to its past; the exceptional pieces were just that, while the other pieces aren’t worth a look as the pricing is too exorbitant for what you receive.

Presenting The Under $25 Asymmetrical Zip Denim Jacket

Presenting The Under $25 Asymmetrical Zip Denim JacketThis jacket is minimalistic, effective and best of all affordable.

With incredibly embellished pieces ruling the design world at the moment, it’s refreshing to see an affordable jacket that isn’t fit for center stage.

This jacket may be meek, but it allows for building. Outer layers with many visuals colliding at our eyes aren’t styling friendly to the average dresser; many choose to have a statement piece with very subordinate pairings when faced with that option.

This piece allows for an extravagant neck wrap, bottom, embellished gloves and some seriously intense footwear.

This jacket is available at Forever 21 for $24.80, and available now. If you’re comfortable with styling a piece like this, pick it up now ‘coz at that price it won’t stick around!

The GaGa Takes Flare’s December Cover

The GaGa Takes Flare's December CoverCanada’s Flare magazine has utilized the entertainment industry’s hottest nugget 0f glory right now, Lady GaGa, for their cover muse.

Apparently she goes into details on her upcoming tour, what she considers beautiful and how she is training for the extreme physical regiment that will be her dance/sing performance.

I love her makeup, hair and headpiece, though this tired portrait style image does not do GaGa justice. It’s a nice change from her nudie shoots, but this has a more mature feel to it and that scares me a bit.

You’ll have to wait for Flare’s December issue to get the whole scoop on her interview and photo spread, but I have a feeling it’s going to be worth the wait.

Taxidermy Accessories? YES PLEASE

Taxidermy Accessories? YES PLEASEThese are eerily fantastic – taxidermy beasts that have been turned into fine accessories!

Now don’t lose your shit, animal lovers… these critters have all met their end via pest control and other methods.  In other words, the designer does not have animals killed; she collects the wee bodies after they have already left this Earth.

The lady behind these delightfully morbid creations is Brit Reid Peppard.  Her website is currently in blog format and dosen’t have price points for pieces so I’m unsure as to what one of these little rascals goes for.

I particularly loving the mouse head bow tie and rat skin ring.

I realize many people love wearing skins (I’m not hear to judge), but would you venture into full creature adornments?

Kate Moss’ Holiday 2009 Topshop Collection Launches Tomorrow

It’s been a few months so [of course] it’s time for another Kate Moss for Topshop collection.  As we’re nearing the intensely chilly months, this would be the holiday collection; something extra glittery and evening appropriate.

The collection launches tomorrow, which means that if you want first pick of all sizes and designs (including the limited edition extravagances) that you’ll want to rise early and have your methods of payment ready.

In the mean time, check out a slideshow of the Kate Moss ranges since the launch in ’07 to what looks they’re hatching today.

A.P.C. Is Officially @ The BlockOur favorite minimalist Gastown boutique, The Block, is officially carrying exceedingly wonderful French label A.P.C.

If you aren’t familiar with the A.P.C. house, take a bit of time to check out their look – it works for nearly everyone.

I’d say a visit to The Block to check out their new stock is warranted, and then off to Dutil to drool over their A.P.C. denim!

Omelle’s Rabbit Fur Cuffs Offer Multiple Styling Options

omelle-fur-cuffsIf you’re looking to spunk up a pair of tired shoes, boots, wrists (etc!), look no further than Omelle’s rabbit fur cuffs.

These can be layered for effect over nearly anything, and will add a layer of luxury to even a high street shoe or boot.

I’m loving the opportunities one is afforded with such a basic accessory – it’s a definite win.

At $398 the cuffs aren’t in everyone’s budget, though if you purchase a vintage fur coat and stitch it back together and top off with a few vintage belts.
